We conducted ‘enter and views’ in older people’s care homes

During October and November we conducted ‘enter and views’ in Camden’s seven care homes for older people. We worked with national charity Independent Age to test their new 10 Quality Indicators for care homes and also had invaluable help from our volunteers.

The views of people living in residential care often go unheard in the delivery of our health and social care services, so we’ve made it one of our priorities to make sure that they and their carers’ have a say.

We spoke to staff, residents and family members in each care home to see if we could find out how well they met the 10 Quality Indicators. The Quality Indicators highlight the things older people and their families think are important in residential care homes when making a decision about where to move into.

You can find out more about the indicators here. {LINK https://www.independentage.org/policy-research/our-10-care-home-quality-...}

We’re busy writing up our reports and recommendations to the homes, they will be ready in January 2017.

We want to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped us to ‘enter and view.’ Volunteers are our lifeblood and they help us to shape local health and social care services to what our community wants and needs.

We’re always looking for volunteers, so if you want to help us look at hospital environments in the spring, comment below or contact Victoria.armitage@healthwatchcamden.co.uk or call 0203 771 3930
