The Holiday Season is Here! Christmas and hHannukah 2018 volunteering roles
We have been asked about volunteer roles during the holiday season, so here you go.
Listen, we get it. You’re tucking into your fifth mince pie, and settling into watching Elf for the fifteenth time on the sofa. You don’t feel capable of taking the bins out let alone actually getting dressed and out into the real world. But it’s worth remembering that the festive season is as much about what you give back as take away – and what better way to give back than by signing up to do some volunteering over the holiday period. Here are five opportunities that will help you get into the true spirit of the season.
Christmas is a magical time of year, where you kick back and relax with your family. At least it should be. Not everyone can enjoy that luxury. But you can help. Here are just some of the places you can volunteer at Christmas in London.
Changes to the welfare benefit system, a shortage of affordable housing and increased private rents are all having an impact nationally, contributing to a homelessness crisis, which in the worst incidences can result in rough sleeping. You can read the draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy online now.

We are developing proposals for a new national patient safety strategy to support the NHS to be the safest healthcare system in the world.
The strategy is being developed alongside the NHS Long Term Plan and will be relevant to all parts of the NHS, be that physical or mental health care, in or out of hospital and primary care.
Since 2014, we’ve heard from 1.4 million people about what it’s like to use NHS and social care services. Our latest annual report to Parliament highlights what changes you want to see and how together we're making a difference. Our annual report 2017/18

Cold weather puts young children, people over 65 and those with heart and lung conditions at risk from low temperatures.
To prepare for cold weather:
look out for friends and family who may be vulnerable to the cold, and ensure they have access to warm food and drinks and are managing to heat their homes adequately
try to maintain indoor temperatures to at least 18°C, particularly if you are not mobile, have a long-term illness or are 65 or over
stay tuned for weather forecasts, ensure you are stocked with food and medications in advance, have deliveries, or ask a friend to help
take weather into account when planning your activity over the following days
if eligible, seek entitlements and benefits - power and utility companies have schemes which make at-risk groups a priority for reconnection following power cuts
avoid exposing yourself to cold or icy outdoor conditions if you are at a higher risk of cold-related illness or falls
discuss with your friends and neighbours the need to clear snow and ice from in front of your house and public walkways nearby
