National HIV Testing Week (NHTW) starts on Saturday 18 November 2017. Although HIV is manageable and people with HIV can lead a healthy life with a near-normal life expectancy, late diagnosis of HIV remains an important public health issue in the UK.

NICE are consulting on guidance which aims to help improve services for people with learning disabilities who have challenging behaviour.
The recommendations include: Urging local authorities and NHS organisations to provide specialist community care for people which could ultimately avoid admissions to psychiatric wards or residential homes
Ensuring that people are admitted into services as a last resort when all other options have been considered. If a person is admitted, they should be as close to their home as possible
Asking commissioners to appoint a specialist lead to make sure the right support is available for people and their families
Having a ‘named worker’ from the community learning disability team to be responsible for coordinating someone’s care
Last month new steps to improve emergency care and access to GPs came into force.

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) are currently consulting on the strategy for the next three years.
